Why some companies show initials

Initials are a deliberate placeholder, not a broken image.

Logos appear on a signal where the product could find and verify one. Where it could not, you see the company's initials instead.

That is a deliberate placeholder rather than a failure. A wrong logo is worse than no logo, so one is shown only when the company's own website identified itself by that name.

Ordinary-word names never get one

Companies called “Factory”, “Trolley”, “Granite” or “Backbone” deliberately do not get a logo, because a guess from the name would be too likely to fetch a different business entirely.

Roughly half of companies have a logo today. The figure rises as websites are resolved and verified, and it will never reach 100% by design.
