Adding a company

The two-step Companies House picker, and why it is not a free text box.

Press Add a company. Type the name, and the product looks it up in Companies House, showing matching registered companies with their status, incorporation date and address. Pick the right one.

Why a picker rather than a text box

  • It gets you the legally correct company rather than a name you typed, which matters when three businesses share a trading name.
  • It records the company number, so later signals about the same company attach to the same record.

Dissolved and liquidated companies are shown but ranked last, so you can still find one if you mean to, without picking it by accident.

Once added, the product immediately goes looking for that company's signals. The first few can take a minute or two to appear.

Adding a company is also how you separate two namesakes

If a company's page is showing news about a similarly named business, adding that business is what lets the product tell them apart. Use its full name: “Odyssey Investment Partners” separates cleanly where “Odyssey Investment” is a weaker handle on the same company.
